The Department of Animal Science at Texas A&M University
invites applications for an Instructional Assistant Professor and
Extension Specialist with an emphasis in animal science and
expertise in swine production. This is a 12-month, non-tenure track
position with responsibilities for teaching (65%), extension (225%)
and service (10%).
Teaching responsibilities will include instruction at the
undergraduate level, which will involve working closely with Animal
Science teaching faculty to implement a new undergraduate
curriculum by revitalizing swine production and management courses
(Discipline Focus Courses). The individual will also work with the
US Pork Center of Excellence (https://www.usporkcenter.org/)
to enhance opportunities for learning in the pork industry and aid
students in conducting high impact learning experiences (such as
swine research, pork industry internships, and other experiences).
The incumbent will develop online course sections to address the
needs of undergraduate students at West Texas A&M University
who have an interest in swine production and for non-major Texas
A&M College of Agriculture and Life Sciences undergraduate
students. This individual will also be part of the teaching faculty
cadre to instruct students in the new Animal Science Capstone
courses. The incumbent's Extension role will focus on leading
statewide responsibilities in swine Extension activities, including
providing education for commercial swine producers in

Ph.D. in animal science or closely related field, with
documented evidence of expertise in swine production. A
demonstrated desire and ability to teach and develop a strong
program in undergraduate education is required. The successful
applicant must have demonstrated interest and/or expertise in
working with swine producers and the swine industry overall.
Understanding of the job responsibilities of an Extension
Specialist is required, along with adequate training to conduct,
interpret and publish translational research with direct
application to the swine industry. Demonstrated ability to
effectively work with people and utilize a systems approach to
problem solving, variety of modern education delivery and research
methods, and a willingness to respond to policy, administration and
supervision. Applicant must be proficient in oral and written
communications and must have human relations skills to work closely
with the dairy industry. Computer efficiency is required.
