District Mission Statement
The Allamakee Community School District promotes a safe, caring, and supportive environment. The Allamakee School District is located in northeast Iowa and is comprised of 417 square miles (4th largest in the state). The district includes the communities of Dorchester, Harpers Ferry, Rossville, Waterville, and Waukon. The 2017-18 certified student enrollment was 1,094 with a free and reduced lunch population of 40%. Despite increase in Free & Reduced participation, there has been a decrease in the special education population and an increase in test scores. The district employs a total of 203 total people to support the districts operations. The district finances and facilities are a highlight, which includes recent renovations to the high school and a solvency ration of 47.8%. Waukon is a community of approximately 4,131, located in the beautiful and scenic Northeast Iowa. The city has many active civic/industrial improvement programs in place. The community is home to one golf course, a 46-acre city park with wooden playground, hiking and biking trails, aquatic center and wellness center. Waukon has three full service banks, two local radio stations, a weekly newspaper, a municipal airport and churches of many denominations. The small town atmosphere sells Waukon. The friendly area merchants and residents make everyone feel welcome.
Waukon is located 17 miles from the Wisconsin border, 18 miles from the Minnesota border and only 15 miles from the Mississippi River.
